Novi Police Department arrests three suspects for area home invasions

July 11, 2008

Three individuals were arraigned Thursday, on home invasion charges stemming from two Novi incidents that occurred this week.

Jerome Terrell, 18, of Detroit, Christopher Crain, 19, of Oak Park and Mitchton Edwards, 18, of Detroit, were arraigned before Magistrate Michael Batchik of the 52-1 District Court.

Home invasion is a felony carrying a penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a $3,000 fine.

Bond was set for each suspect at $20,000. The individuals are currently being held at the Oakland County Jail.

The first reported incident occurred July 6. A Novi family was at home when they observed a male subject knocking on the front door. They did not answer the door and the subject returned to a vehicle parked in the driveway.

The family then observed another male peering through the rear door wall into the house. Two subjects then kicked open the front door and entered the residence. The subjects were confronted by the residents and fled to the vehicle, which was described as a blue Dodge Charger.

Nothing was taken from the home.

On July 8, two days later, a baby-sitter and 13-year-old-girl were returning to their home when they observed a blue Dodge Charger parked in the driveway of the residence next door.

The baby-sitter observed a male, later identified as Crain, walk from the residence back to the vehicle. Crain engaged in a conversation with the baby-sitter and then left in the Charger with two other males.

The baby-sitter went into the home and observed the Charger return to the house next door. The 13-year-old girl took a photograph of the suspect vehicle from a second story window and Novi police were summoned to the scene.

Officers arrived at the residence and began investigation. It was determined the home had been broken into and computer equipment was stolen.

Officers relayed information to area police departments and shortly after, officers from the Livonia Police Department stopped the suspect vehicle in the area of Interstate 96 and Farmington Road, where Terrell, Crain and Edwards were taken into custody.

The
stolen computer equipment was recovered inside the Charger.

The Novi Police Department continues to work with other law enforcement agencies while investigating additional home invasions that may be linked to these suspects and is asking anybody with information to contact detective Todd Anger of the Novi Police Department at (248) 348-7100.
