Mom and son arrested in Potsdam laptop theft

A mother and son worked together to try to destroy evidence of a laptop computer theft, according to Potsdam village police.

Arrested:

• William Facteau, 18, for grand larceny, tampering with physical evidence and criminal mischief
• Cynthia Facteau, 49, for tampering with evidence and criminal mischief.

Police believe that on July 21, Mr. Facteau stole a laptop valued at $1,400 from a Potsdam resident.

He and his mother became aware of the investigation and worked together to disassemble the computer, throwing several of its components into the Grasse River, police say.

Both were arraigned in Potsdam village court. Mr. Facteau was jailed in lieu of $1,500 bail. His mother was released to supervision of the county probation department.
