Laptop Tracking Device Snares Alleged Thief

Detectives with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department used tracking technology to help solve two September burglaries in Sycamore Township. According to court records, Jesse Laboiteaux of Sycamore Township allegedly broke into two homes on September 22. At one home in the 4600 block of Kugler Mill Road, Laboiteaux allegedly forced open a plexi-glass window gaining entry to the home. Inside he allegedly stole a DVD Player and a Playstation 3 game console. At the second home located in the 8400 block of Pine Road, Laboiteaux allegedly opened an unlocked window, then opened the rear door. Once inside, he allegedly took several DVD movies and a Dell laptop. Installed on the laptop was a tracking device that allowed Detective Mike Linder to located the computer and arrest Laboiteaux. Deputies connected Laboiteaux through fingerprint evidence at both homes and a confession. Records show Laboiteaux returned the stolen DVD player. It’s unclear what information the tracking device gave police to lead to a suspect, but Dell is just one company offering tracking service for computers. Software or built in hardware can allow a stolen computer to give it’s location when it’s connected to the internet. Customers usually pay a yearly fee for this type of service. Laboiteaux was arraigned Saturday on two counts of burglary and various outstanding warrants. |
