DUBLIN — Police are reminding residents to lock their homes and cars, after a cat burglar struck Sunday morning in east Dublin.

Early Sunday, a burglar entered a home in the 5700 block of Signal Hill Drive through an unlocked patio door and took a cell phone, laptop and purse — all while the residents were sleeping, said Dublin Police Lt. Glenn Moon.

The purse contained the keys to a tan 2007 Sierra mini-van, which was stolen from the driveway.

When the family woke up, they realized they had been burglarized and called the police.

Moon said that at about the time the Signal Hill home was hit, someone rummaged through a car parked in the 5600 block of the Saddle Creek Terrace, which is in the same neighborhood. The person took the car's registration and the garage door remote, from the unlocked car.

Another unlocked car on the same street was also rummaged through, Moon said, but nothing was taken from there.

Police believe the crimes may have been committed by the same person or persons because of the proximity of the homes and the time they were hit.

"We certainly encourage citizens to lock their residences and their vehicles," Moon said.

Police ask anyone with information to call 925-833-6670.
