Burglars spoil tots' festive fun

Thieves left toddlers in tears after their Christmas disco was cancelled following a burglary at a playschool.

More than 20 children arrived at Spire Playschool, in Bushloe End, Wigston, yesterday excited about spending the day meeting Santa and dancing at the disco.

However, they were left distraught after discovering their classroom had been vandalised and a laptop computer stolen just hours earlier.

Lorrain Doore, who runs Spire, said: "Windows were smashed and doors were broken. We're all totally gutted and the kids were really looking forward to it.

"They've been building up to this all week and they are so upset. The classroom is completely unusable and will be for a few days.

"We hope that we can get the kids back in next week, if it's all okay. But today was the last day of term so it won't be the same."

Linda Eaton said her grandson, three-year-old Charlie James, of Little Hill, was upset. She said: "He's heartbroken and has been sobbing all morning."

Police are investigating the break-in.
