A senior center that was robbed gets a helping hand from the community it serves.

Last week, thieves broke into the Paso Robles Senior Citizen Center on Scott Street. The crooks made off with two computers.

After the senior center was robbed and word got out that the city, which funds the center, couldn't afford to replace the computers that were stolen, one man stepped into action.

It takes a certain kind of person to steal from a senior center, but you can say it also takes a certain kind of community to replace what crooks stole. One such community member has come forward.

Tom Crabaugh says when he heard the city's budget issues were preventing them from replacing the stolen computers, he had to act.

"One of my main motivations in doing this is to send a clear message to the senior community that they are valuable to us, and we do care about them," Crabaugh said.

Employees at the center are amazed at the outpouring of support they have received.

Senior center employee Lynda Holt said, "People in our community are amazing and generous, and during these hard times I think it's important that we all come together and take care of each other when hardships happen."

The Crabaugh family is in the process of donating funds for a new computer to the center. Tom Crabaugh has this message to other members of the community:

"We are only replacing one of the two computers that were stolen. I'd like to challenge the rest of the SLO community, especially North County residents, to match what we did and come up with a second computer for the senior center," Crabaugh said.

So far, two other people have contacted the center about donating a computer, but nothing has been arranged as of yet.

Police are still searching for a suspect. If you have any information that could help them, call the Paso Robles Police Department at (805) 237-6464.
