Burglar targets Chesapeake mayor's office, computer stolen
The chiropractic office of Chesapeake Mayor Alan P. Krasnoff was ransacked, and at least one computer was stolen, police said.
A cleaning person arrived at Krasnoff’s North Battlefield Boulevard office at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 21, and called authorities after noticing a closet light was on, said Chesapeake Police spokeswoman Dorienne Boykin.
Police noticed that a door had been forced open, and several rooms in the office had been ransacked, Boykin said. Forensics technicians were called to take photos and collect evidence.
The mayor said he had been in his chiropractic office Feb. 20. He said there were no office files on the personal computer that was taken, and that no patient records were compromised.
“I was one of the lucky ones, because no one got hurt,” Krasnoff said. “All they got was my computer.”
He said “only God knows” whether his computer was hacked into, but added, “Thank God for complicated passwords.”
Boykin said police are investigating. “They’re actively working the case,” she said.
