Akron police are looking for burglars who stole exotic fish and damaged aquariums inside Aquatic Interiors Sea Cave on West Exchange Street.
"It was vicious, just vicious," says the owner's wife, Amy Mills.
Burglars destroyed nearly every fish tank inside the store, which was about to celebrate its one year anniversary at its current location.
Owner Steve Mills arrived around 6:30 Wednesday morning to find glass and dead fish littering the floor.
"They took all of our, the saltwater fish," said Amy Mills.
She says whoever broke in stole all of their expensive, tropical fish, some worth $200.
"There's a Lionfish that is this big, that you can't find it anywhere...so if they're finding very unique fish and they don't have an explanation on where they got 'em and or how much it cost them, then where did you get it, because you probably got it here," she says.
Police say the burglars also damaged plants, took money from the cash register and stole phones and computers. They also tossed Pat the Parrot and his cage into an indoor pond.- "His eye has got a problem and he's kinda beat up on the one side, he somehow got out and was hiding," says Mills.
She says when water drained out of the broken tanks, many of the remaining fish died. Amy believes the people responsible knew what they were doing because only the expensive, saltwater fish were gone.
"It's a hobbyist, it's somebody who knows fish," says Mills. "They knew what they were doing, there's not one freshwater fish that is missing."
The store is insured and the owner expects to reopen. Investigators believe the thieves broke in through a side window. Anyone with information about the break in is asked to call Akron police.
