A Pacific University spokesman said Thursday the university's had no indication that personal information was gleaned from a laptop stolen from a staff member's home on March 26.
Forest Grove Police said the laptop, a credit card and about $1,000 in jewelry was stolen in the March 26 burglary. University officials were made aware of the theft of the laptop, which is owned by the university, that day.
"The computer contained names and some personal information," said university spokesman Billy Merck. "It does not appear that any Social Security numbers were stored on the system."
The university set up a Web site informing students of the potential identity theft risk stemming from the theft.
The site said there is "no factual evidence that your private information was stored on the laptop." However, the laptop could have been used to connect to the university's system, which has that information. The laptop user's passwords were all changed in an attempt to lock out a potential identity thief.
On Thursday, Merck said there had been no reports of attempted, or successful, identity theft.
Police do not yet have a suspect in the burglary.
