Holland, MI —

Holland High School and West Middle School were among several locations hit during a string of overnight break-ins Monday night, police confirmed Tuesday.

Police don’t know if break-ins at the schools and a medical office building were related, Capt. Rick Walters of the Holland Police Department said.

“There’s not a great distance between the two schools and the building, so it’s certainly possible,” Walters said.

Perpetrators smashed a window at Holland High School, 600 Van Raalte Ave., stealing a desktop computer and monitor, he said. Four windows were smashed at West Middle School, and a monitor and a television were vandalized.

Two suspects broke the glass in the entryway of a of medical building at 844 S. Washington. The two suspects fled on foot, without stealing or doing any further damage, after being surprised by nighttime cleaning crew, Walters said.

“It looks like it was one of those smash and grab operations,” said Holland Public Schools Director of Human Resources Carol Minnaar.

Student data is kept on a mainframe server and wasn’t compromised by the computer stolen from the high school, she said.

“Fortunately all of our student data is not on any desktop computer,” Minnaar said.
