Doyle center:
Computers, games stolen

Jun 25, 2009 (Kerrville Daily Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Some criminals really don't have a conscience.

The Doyle School Community Center was burglarized Monday night by someone who knew what they were looking for.

According to a Kerrville Police Department report, director Matt Walden reported the burglary Tuesday morning at approximately 9 a.m.

KPD officer David Torres responded and reported the suspect broke in through an unlocked back window of the building.

Among the missing items were a Gateway computer, two Sony Playstations, a Sony boombox, an empty money bag from Walden's desk drawer and a box of candy.

The door to Walden's office was broken at the hinges.

Officers attempted to find latent fingerprints. They did find the Sony boombox across the street in the front yard of a residence.

The scene was processed for evidence, and according to KPD spokesman Paul Gonzales, "all indications lead us to believe the suspects were familiar with the building." "These people stole directly from our kids," Walden said.

The children who attend the community center will hold a bake sale Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. outside of Hastings to raise money for replacing the stolen items.

Total value of the stolen items and the door came to $1,620.

The case has been forwarded to the criminal investigation unit.
