 | June 23, 2009 ITHACA -- A computer with thousands of people's personal information has been stolen from Cornell University. School officials say current and former faculty, staff and students could be at risk of identity theft. WENY TV News has obtained a copy of an email from Cornell's IT security office. It states a Cornell owned computer, stolen earlier this month, contains the names and social security numbers of more than 45,000 people in the Cornell community. The email goes on to say there have been no reports of misuse of the information. Cornell University spokesman Simeon Moss would only confirm a breach of security. Moss says the University is trying to figure out the full extend of the damage before releasing any more information. The email states Cornell will pay for fraud counseling and credit monitoring for anyone affected by the breach.
