Three computers and $20,000 in cash and checks were stolen in a break-in at a Hartford school Monday morning, police.

Police said officers were called to St. Augustine School on Clifford Street at about 8 a.m.

They said burglars forced their way into the school and gained entry into the main officer and several other rooms over the weekend.

Police said three new computers, still inside the boxes, three printers and $20,000 in cash and checks were stolen.

School officials said that the incident will have no noticeable impact on the school's educational program.

"School starts tomorrow, teachers are excited, children are knocking at the door uniform clad, and we're excited. While this was a very unfortunate experience, we're very saddened at our loss," said Principal Cynthia Niedbala.

Louis Garcia's three children attend the school, which has about 180 students in grades pre-K through eighth, and celebrated its 80th anniversary last year.

"The school is struggling as it is, and then to have this happen, it's really unfortuante," Garcia said.

Anyone with information regarding the burglary is urged to contact the Hartford Police Department by dialing 860-757-4250.
