Cops: Man Stole Computers, Toilet Paper And A Hazmat Suit From Hospital
Nicholas Moffo, 35, has pleaded not guilty in Litchfield Superior Court after he was arrested in May by New Milford police who found a number of the stolen items for sale on eBay, the Register Citizen reported. Four new laptops were the first items reportedly stolen in October 2007. Other items also taken include computer projectors, a camera, hundreds of rolls of toilet paper and copper elements to the hospital's heating system.
Police said Moffo was a maintenance supervisor at the hospital and had access to every room in the building, the newspaper reported. He would stow anything he could sell on eBay in a trash bin he pushed from room to room and would later load them into his truck at a loading dock.
Police said Moffo used his position at the hospital to bully co-workers to keep quiet about what they saw and used eBay accounts set up by his ex-wife, girlfriend and cousin to sell the stolen goods, the Register Citizen reported. He was fired by the hospital in the spring of 2008 for allegedly doctoring time cards.
Moffo is next scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 18.
