LYLE -- Someone broke into a Lyle residence and stole numerous items as well as a vehicle Friday or early Saturday. Authorities later found the vehicle on fire in Iowa.
The vehicle and items were set on fire on a rural road south of Lyle across the border in Mitchell County, Iowa, authorities say. About 9 a.m. Saturday, the vehicle was reported on fire in rural St. Ansgar, Iowa.
The Lyle couple arrived home about 4:30 p.m. Saturday to find their home burglarized, Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said.
A TV set, DVD player, surround-sound speakers, desktop computer and DVDs were among the stolen items that also were set on fire with the vehicle, Amazi said. A bottle of transmission fluid stolen from the residence likely was used to start the blaze, she said.
The burglary occurred in the 100 block of Fourth Street in Lyle, Amazi said.
