Cops warn of fake techies
Posted by admin - 16/09/09 at 02:09 pm
Langley police issued a warning yesterday about fake computer technicians.
Officers were called to investigate a computer theft on Sept. 9 involving two men who walked in to a business and told an employee they were from “head office.”
The thieves, one who wore a tool belt and ID tag clipped to his shirt, said they were given a contract to work on a computer tower.
The employee found this suspicious and reported it to a manager. By the time they returned the fake techies had taken off with the computer tower.
Police said the crime is worrisome because thieves could use this technique to install card readers into debit machines or steal bank information.
