Papineau MP Justin Trudeau said he was "relieved" when he realized which computer had been stolen. (The Canadian Press)Liberal MP Justin Trudeau says a computer stolen from his Montreal riding office contained no sensitive information.
Montreal police confirm someone broke into the Papineau MP's storefront office around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, setting off an alarm.
Trudeau said he was "relieved" when he realized only a personal computer and a monitor had been taken.
He said the computer "had nothing but sort of parliamentary emails and some rough drafts of speeches and press communiqués."
Trudeau said his office frequently fields questions regarding employment and immigration files.
He said he had learned that thefts at MPs' offices "are not as uncommon as we would hope."
"MPs' offices and MNAs' offices are often targeted because people know that there are computers in there that they can run off with."
Trudeau said he will speak with police to see what could be done to improve security. But he also said it's important to him that his office be accessible to the public.
Trudeau said he was relieved to learn that pieces of local artwork in the office weren't touched.
