Metuchen police officers on lookout for home burglars

METUCHEN — Police are warning residents to lock their windows, after it was learned that suspects gained entry through first-floor windows that were open in two out of the three home burglaries that occurred last week.
The incidents happened between 11:30 p.m. Sept. 13 and 6:20 p.m. Sept. 15, police said.
Someone cut the screen and entered an unlocked first-floor window of a High Street residence and stole three laptop computers with a total value of $6,000 between 11:30 p.m. Sept. 13 and 7:10 a.m. Sept. 14. Police said the family was home at the time, sleeping on the second floor of the home.
Someone entered a first-floor open window of a Middlesex Avenue residence and stole two watches and a laptop computer with a total value of $3,060 between 7:10 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. Sept. 15.
A third incident occurred when someone forced their way into a Kentnor Street residence through the front door and stole a PlayStation and an Xbox 360 game systems with a total estimated value of $600 between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sept. 15. The force caused the front doorframe to crack.
