Police Look For Laptop Thieves At Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro Police are helping Vanderbilt look for laptop thieves. There have been several on the Vanderbilt campus, and a couple of the thieves have been captured by video surveillance cameras.

Vanderbilt police said the crime was Sunday, August 9 at 12:20 p.m. The video came from cameras at the Stevenson Center on the college campus. Police said the two men stole a laptop computer.

"They knew exactly where to go, and they went directly to an open office," said Mark Hallman, Vanderbilt Police Department.

Police said an hour earlier one of the men was spotted taking another computer.

"Stole a laptop computer at 11:30 a.m., and was so comfortable he came back at 12:30 p.m. with another black male and stole a second laptop computer," said Hallman.

They stole a Dell laptop computer and a 24 inch monitor. Campus employees discovered the computers were missing when they came to work Monday morning.

Police are looking for two male blacks in their early 20s or early 30s. One wore a white t-shirt, white shorts and white tennis shoes. He also wore a dark baseball cap.

The other suspect wore a light colored t-shirt and trousers. His baseball cap had the initials T-N on it. Police believe there's a possibility at least one of the suspects had been in the building before.

"We're not sure if it's a former employee, but they seemed to have known the layout of the building, because it is confusing," said Hallman.

The men could have been involved in other thefts on the Vanderbilt campus.

"We want our students and faculty to feel safe on campus, and that's why it's important to get these guys in custody," said Hallman.
