ST. LOUIS, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- A college student called police when he realized a Kindle he'd bought had been stolen from Missouri state Auditor Susan Montee, police said.
Montee's Cadillac Escalade, with state-issued license plates, was broken into Sept. 23 outside a political event in St. Louis.
The theft included a state laptop computer that was password protected, a gold necklace, a pearl necklace, and Montee's Kindle, an electronic reader that lets users download books and periodicals.
Within days of the theft, Juan Bermudez, 29, a math major at the University of Missouri, bought a Kindle offered on Craigslist for $125, The St. Louis (Mo.) Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday. Kindles retail for more than $300.
Bermudez soon realized the Kindle has a registered user -- Susan Montee. He contacted police after an Internet search revealed news of Montee's car break-in.
"It certainly bodes well for his character. What a good guy," Montee said.
