Teens broke into Middletown school to steal laptop computers, cops say
MIDDLETOWN - Three teenagers have been charged with breaking into Chorley Elementary School to steal computers, and a fourth is charged with having one of the stolen computers.
Police said the teens broke into the school at 50 Roosevelt Ave. on Saturday afternoon, and the thefts of three laptop computers and other items were discovered Monday morning.
The school’s security camera system captured the incident, enabling School Resource Officer Esteban Mercado and Probation Officer Melissa Laks to identify some of the suspects.
Zachary Bennett, 17, Devendra Ramnath, 16, and Elizabeth Steinman, 16, all of Middletown, were each charged with third-degree burglary, a felony.
Rajendra Ramnath, 19, of Middletown, was charged with possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor. Police said the computers are valued at $960 each. Two of the laptops have been recovered.
