THIEVES broke into the Concordia Secondary School in Windhoek in the early hours of Tuesday, stealing all their computers.

The City Police and the Namibian Police immediately launched a joint operation and by Tuesday evening five suspects had been arrested and 26 computers recovered.

It is not clear how many computers are still missing.

Three of the suspects are foreign nationals, the Police said.

All the computers had been wrapped and packed for transport to Angola, which is the main market for stolen electronic goods, according to the Police.

Theft syndicates come to Namibia with 'shopping lists' of the items they want stolen and how much they are prepared to pay for them, the Police say.

One such list was allegedly found on the suspects.

"They are depriving our schoolchildren of technology and thus education," said the Khomas Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Samuel Hoëbeb.

The stolen computers were found at three locations around Katutura and Windhoek West.

"These goods are not hidden in riverbeds, they are kept and packed in houses and we ask the public to be aware of what is going on around them and to contact us so that together we can make a difference and stop crime," said City Police Chief Abraham Kanime.
