Thieves break into Odrek’s office, steal two computers

TWO computers containing vital information were stolen on Thursday from Terp Group, a consultancy firm owned by President Museveni’s son-in-law Odrek Rwabwogo.

Unknown people broke into his office on the fifth floor of Nakawa House on Port Bell Road and took away two computers, one belonging to his personal assistant and another to the accountant.

Rwabwogo told Sunday Vision that the thieves stole vital information, including tax records, clients’ proposals, invoices and confidential information belonging to the firm. They, however, ignored other items in the office such as cash and cheques, he said.

He suspects that some people are trying to taint his name and use the stolen data to blackmail him through stories published online and in tabloids.

“It is a sign of hopelessness. Those who have failed to confront me have now resorted to stealing. No integrity can come out of stealing.”

He said the watchmen could have connived with the thieves to allow them access to the building. He also suspects some of his managers might have been involved.

When Sunday Vision visited the scene yesterday, there was broken glass on the floor and the door lock had been broken. Rwabwogo said he reported the matter to Jinja Road Police Station and forensic work was being done to track those responsible.

Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba, said the Police was investigating the case. However, no suspects have been arrested yet.

Rwabwogo suspects certain opposition politicians and high-profile people in the Government are behind the incident. He has forwarded the names of politicians he suspects to the Police to be investigated.

He believes he is being witch hunted by people who are monitoring his every move. Four days before the incident, he said, he was approached by an unknown man who told him senior politicians had linked him to Autowash, the company contracted to wash the cars used during the CHOGM summit in 2007. Terp Group does public relations, events management, marketing and advertising.
