Police News: Men charged in $698 computer theft from Macedonia store

Macedonia -- Two Cleveland men are each facing a felony charge after an employee of a Macedonia Commons Boulevard store reported the men left the store without paying for a $698 desktop computer Jan. 20.

Police said they also found a $74 air mattress in the men's car, which the employee determined was also taken from the store.

According to Stow Municipal Court records, the two men, ages 48 and 59, did not enter pleas to fifth-degree felony theft and fifth-degree felony complicity to commit theft at their Jan. 20 arraignments.

The younger man pleaded not guilty to criminal trespassing and drug paraphernalia possession, both fourth-degree misdemeanors, and the older man pleaded not guilty to driving under suspension, a first-degree misdemeanor.

According to a police report, an employee reported that after the men exited the store with the computer, they left the area in a car. Police said the employee was able to give them the car's license plate number and a police officer on patrol spotted it driving north on Interstate 271 near Route 82 and stopped it.

Police said the younger man admitted to taking the computer, which was on the car's back seat, and the air mattress. Police said they also found a crack cocaine pipe in his backpack.

Both men were being held in Macedonia City Jail on 10 percent of $25,000 bonds as of Jan. 25.
