Man faces charges in Moxee school break-in

MOXEE, Wash. -- Bail was set at $25,000 Monday for a man arrested early Monday for an attempted theft of computer equipment from Moxee Elementary School, 528 E. Seattle Ave.

The 22-year-old man is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 4 in Yakima County Superior Court. He faces possible charges of second-degree burglary, second-degree theft and malicious mischief.

According to a probable cause affidavit in court records, private security and Moxee police went to the school about 12:50 a.m. when an alarm went off.

Upon arrival, the document said, two people fled the school on foot, leaving a computer sitting outside the school.

A Yakima County sheriff's deputy assisting in a search located the 22-year-old near Faucher Road and Columbus Avenue in Moxee.

A 14-year-old juvenile was arrested later and was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center.

Entry to the school was made by breaking a window. Damage to the school was estimated at $800, the report said.
