ORLANDO --
Police arrested a man they said stole a computer from a Winter Haven Walmart, and may be responsible for several other similar thefts.
Jeremy Alexis Maldonado, 32, was arrested at his Orlando home on Wednesday and charged with grand theft and fraudulent use of a receipt.
Detectives said Maldonado used a security key to unlock the harnesses that secure display computers, then showed the clerk a fake receipt before walking out of the store with the stolen goods.
A clerk in the electronics department noticed items were missing shortly after Maldonado left the area, police said. In addition, witnesses got the tag number of Maldonado's vehicle, which police said was registered to his mother.
When detectives arrived at his home, they found Maldonado with the security key in his pocket and the vehicle seen outside the Walmart was parked in front of his home, investigators said.
Detectives said they believe his arrest will help solve several other grand theft cases involving Walmart stores and similar circumstances around the area.
