OREM, Utah —
Police say thieves broke into an Orem elementary school and stole dozens of computers over night.

Orem Police say the thieves broke into Foothill Elementary School on 921 North and 1240 East and stole 32 laptop computers, 14 desktop computers and a camera.

The school's janitor left at 5:30 p.m. Sunday with everything fine -- by 6 p.m. thieves had taken an estimated $60,000 worth of hardware.

Police say the laptops were stolen from a cart locked in the school's media room.

School officials think the thieves were hunting for expensive gear.

'He [janitor] noticed some things in the hallway that weren't supposed to be there and got looking closer and there were actually seven doors inside school that had been broken," said Alpine School District spokesperson, Rhonda Bromley. "It's a huge loss for the kids here at Foothill."

School officials say they are able to replace the stolen equipment because they were insured. They say they should receive new ones over two-week Christmas break.

Police do not have any leads yet and no witnesses have come forward.

However, Orem Police Sgt. Craig Martinez is confident they can find the suspects despite the school not having any video surveillance.

"Having a lot of computers ... you know, how can you get rid of these things?" asks Martinez. "So we have a lot of computers to track, so I'm confident we can get them."
