Sumac Elementary was reported burglarized on Thursday morning, said Sgt. M. Bassier of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.
About $6,400 worth of computer equipment was stolen from third-grade teacher and Las Virgenes Unified technology specialist Eric Tally's classroom, Bassier said.
The burglars gained entry through a window to the south side of the building on 6050 Calmfield Ave. “They used the window to go in and out,” he said. “Looks like they removed a windowpane to gain entry.”
A maintenance worker discovered the window and secured it, but the theft was not discovered until the next morning by a teacher, Bassier said.
A fingerprint unit has been to the crime scene and the investigation is still ongoing, authorities said.
Anyone with any information about the crime can contact the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station at 818-878-1808.
