Computer-stealing racket busted; 3 held

HYDERABAD: City police arrested three members of a six-member gang involved in several burglaries on Monday. 88 CPUs and 92 monitors worth `13.5 lakh was recovered.

One Mirza Mujeebulla Baig of New Malakpet, his brother Mirza Mukramullah Baig, Iqbal Madani, Mohammed Shakeep Ahmed and Sameer had formed a gang to commit burglaries. The offenders were nabbed when a team of Panjagutta police travelling on Raj Bhavan road noticed a few persons moving suspiciously. On questioning, police came to know they were part of an organised burglary gang. Police commissioner AK Khan said that Mirza Mujeebulla Baig, Shakeel Ahmed and Mohammed Asjud Sajeed were arrested while Iqbal Madani, Mirza Mukramullah Baig and Sameer are absconding.

The gang was formed specially to target Internet cafes, educational institutions and offices to steal CPUs, laptops and cash. The accused used to conduct thorough recce of the premises before committing the offence, according to Khan.

“The accused had been committing offences by breaking shop locks using an iron rod. Till now, they are involved in 40 cases of house burglaries,’’ AK Khan said. Mohammed Asjud Sajeed was arrested since he used to buy the stolen equipment. “All authorities of commercials establishments should engage security guards and fix CCTVs in their premises to avoid theft,” AK Khan advised.
