Computers Stolen from Elementary School

This is the fifth time laptops have been stolen from schools in the Palm Springs Unified School District since December. Around 15 to 18 laptops were stolen from Cathedral City Elementary School on Converse Street around 1:39 Sunday morning, according to Manager of District Security for Palm Springs Unified School District Roy Hill. The computers were worth around $15,000 total. Parent Susan Conti says she can't imagine how costly it will be to replace all of them. "We know what the investment is, especially with the shortage of money right now it's really hard to replace them," added Conti. The burglars were able to get into the classroom by breaking a window. "We've met with all of the principals of all the elementary schools and talked to them about finding new ways to secure their laptops," said Hill. Sunny Sands Elementary, Cahuilla Elementary and Landau Elementary schools all had computers stolen in January. Cahuilla Elementary was also targeted in early December, with 30 computers being stolen. They're still trying to find the person or the people involved in these cases. If you have any information, call Valley CrimeStoppers at 341-STOP. |
