"They broke into the building and used a forklift to bust open some of the smaller locked areas where they stole over $30,000 worth of copper wires, they also took computers and electrical machines and bush cutters," said Billy Cruz, DOE maintenance director.
Cruz said the alleged burglars hot-wired the forklift.
Cruz said the wires are used to run power at schools. Burglars have stolen copper wire already installed at schools. Cruz said copper wiring is a hot commodity that can be sold quickly for cash.
Cruz said staff members arrived at the shop Monday morning, saw things were missing and called the Guam Police Department.
Cruz said officers arrived and processed the scene. He hasn't been informed of any arrests.
Guam Police Department spokesman A.J. Balajadia said the investigation is ongoing.
Balajadia is asking the community to report information on items being sold or traded, or if they've seen or heard anything that might be related to the burglary.
