Items stolen from the Red Cross in Hopkins Co
Posted: Feb 14, 2011 5:55 PM ESTUpdated: Feb 14, 2011 5:55 PM ESTHOPKINS CO, KY (WFIE) - Madisonville police are investigating the thefts of six laptops from a local Red Cross.
Executive Director Whitney Wardrip has had a tough couple of weeks since her Red Cross office was robbed.
"It's been very crippling for our chapter without them, you don't realize how much you rely on computers but when they're not here, it's been very difficult for us."
The thefts occurred the night of January 31, but this wasn't the first attempt to break in, it was attempt number three.
The computers contained all day-to-day information, but they weren't the only items stolen. Wardrip says disaster food supplies and a DVD player was also taken.
Sergeant Robert Carter with the Madisonville Police Department says this is no easy task moving forward for these employees.
Wardrip says it hurts to know someone would do this to them
"The one and only goal of the American Red Cross is to help the people in our community. It was devastating to me on a professional and personal level that someone would disrupt that in their own community."
There are currently no suspects, but Sgt. Carter encourages the public to speak up if they know of anything.
Wardrip says they will use chapter funds to make up for their losses.
