HARRISON - A Michigan man who police believe wanted to email and win back a former online girlfriend who broke up with him after learning he was having an affair has been charged with stealing computers from a Saginaw area public library.
Dallas Manners, 23, has been charged with six counts of breaking and entering and larceny in two burglaries at the Harrison District Library in Clare County.
A laptop computer, desktop computer, three books, DVDs and $300 were taken in the first burglary earlier this month, The Saginaw News and Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reported today.
Another desktop computer was stolen Tuesday - the day Manners was released on bond in connection with the first break-in.
Surveillance cameras, installed after the first burglary, filmed the second break-in.
An Internet relationship between Manners and a woman from Midland apparently ended after she learned he was still involved with his son's mother, Clare County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Mike Coon told The Saginaw News.
Investigators believe he needed the computers to send emails to the ex-girlfriend, Coon said.
Manners was arraigned Wednesday in 80th District Court in Harrison, about 140 miles northwest of Detroit. A preliminary examination has been set for Monday.
Police returned to the library the computers, books and DVDs that were taken in the first burglary.
Manners had been a frequent user of the library's computers during regular business hours, library director Sheila Bissonette told The Saginaw News.
The Associated Press left an email today seeking comment from his court-appointed attorney, Ryan Tetloff.
