Two teenagers have been charged with stealing 60 laptop computer from West Philadelphia High School that they then tried to sell on Craigslist, police said Monday.

The 17-year-old boys allegedly broke into the high school on Feb. 21 and stole the laptops, said Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives. One is a student at West Philadelphia and the other attends University City High School. Both are charged with burglary, theft, and receiving stolen property.

Investigators last Wednesday asked for the public's help in the case and a man came forward after watching a late news report that night, Walker said.

The man saw a MacBook advertised on Craigslist and met the seller at 59th and Sansom Streets, paying $400 for the computer, Walker said. The computer was subsequently matched with one stolen from the high school.

Detectives then went on Craigslist and asked to buy another laptop. They met one of the alleged teen sellers at 52d and Market Streets Thursday night, where they arrested him.

The arrest led police to 28 other laptops being stored at one home. A desktop Apple iMac found at another location had been stolen from West Philadelphia High School in December. Police also recovered an Epson projector and some electrical cords.

The second teen was arrested Friday morning.

Walker said the remaining 30 laptops are believed to have been sold or are being held or circulated on the street. Schools officials estimated the value of the 60 laptops at $80,000.
