THE Christian Life Centre at Mona Vale was robbed of valuable computer equipment, a safe and cash on Tuesday night or early this morning, leaving staff angry at such a low act.
The thief or thieves cut through barbed wire and gained entry through a window at the rear of the two-storey building at the corner of Barrenjoey Rd and Polo Ave.
Once inside, they stole three late-model Mac computers, a Mac laptop, a hard drive, a router, cash and a heavy safe. The break-in occurred between 5pm on Tuesday and 8.30am today.
Pastor Terry Appel said the important thing was that no one was injured.
“It’s only stuff - people are more important than possessions,” he said. “But it’s an imposition because of the resources that are on the computers, including all the stuff we use to help people.”
Lamberta Groves, also from the church, said the thieves tried to jemmy open doors before entering through a window. “There’s an alleyway down the side of the building,” she said. “We have two gates to the back alley.
“The gates have barbed wire on them but they’ve cut the wire.
“The church has been here since about 1986 and this is the first time we’ve been robbed.
“It’s very disappointing. To steal from a church is pretty low.”
Northern Beaches crime manager Insp Craig Wonders urged anyone who was in the area or has knowledge of the break-in to call Dee Why police on 9971 3399.
