BRITISH COLUMBIA COMPUTERS STOLEN http://www.langleyadvance.com/health/Thieves+strike+again/4640426/story.html

Thieves strike yet again

Students in a special education class at Langley Secondary are getting a second, cruel education in crime this week.

For the second time in five months, thieves have stolen every computer from their classroom.

Teacher Gurpreet Mahill was upset and frustrated Monday, after learning that thieves apparently made off with the computers Friday night.

Someone broke a window at the school, and then cut through the metal anti-theft cables that tied down the computers, along with a television set.

The students in the class are in need of extra help.

"There's a variety of different needs in the classroom," Mahill said.

Some of the students have physical disabilities, others are autistic.

The computers were used by some of the non-verbal autistic students.
The young men and women, from Grades 9 to 12, could also use them for researching current events, or for games during breaks.

The stolen computers were purchased by Langley's London Drugs, as replacements for the first set which were stolen just before Christmas.

Now Mahill said with the district cash-strapped, it isn't certain these new ones can be replaced without more help from the community.

"We'll have to look at our budget," Mahill said. The computers were insured, but the deductible is a factor in the cost of replacing them.

Having computers stolen twice in such a short time is very frustrating for Mahill.

"I would like some justice," he said, hoping the thieves can be caught and the computers recovered.
