CBC reporter Tim Weekes and teacher Gurpeet Mahil look at the area where computers were stolen. (CBC)Thieves have stolen computers from a special education class in Langley for the second time in five months.
The theft appeared to have occurred over the weekend at Langley Secondary School.
"It's very important," said teacher Gurpeet Mahil. "Kids spend a lot of time on the computers in our classroom."
Anti-theft cables and an alarm system were put in place after another theft of all the computers in November.
London Drugs and Homelife Benchmark Realty had donated the four Macintosh replacements. But they're now gone, too, after a smash-and-grab robbery through a window the thieves broke to gain entry.
Police were alerted by the alarm but arrived too late.
The students — whose disabilities range from cerebral palsy to autism — raised the money for the original computers by collecting pop bottles and recyclables over many months.
"I remember these kids worked really hard," said Mahil. "They would have to get dirty. Some of the recycling bins weren't the prettiest things to see."
The school's budget probably won't have enough to replace the machines.
Mahil said he would like to see the thieves caught, and the computers returned. But the theft is a warning to the general public as well, he said, because if someone can steal from his students, they will steal from anyone.
Anyone with information that might lead to the recovery of the computers is asked to call Langley RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
