State Investigating Missing Eisenhower Computer
Reported by: KPSP Local 2 News Email: news@kpsplocal2.com Created: 4/05 6:24 pm Last Update: 4/05 6:32 pm |
The California Department of Public Health has taken over the investigation into a stolen computer at Eisenhower Medical Center. The Rancho Mirage hospital says the computer was taken March 11, but it was not discovered missing until three days later. Eisenhower says no patient health information was taken with the computer. A spokesperson for the Public Health department says there is no timetable to complete its investigation. It could take a few weeks to months or longer. When the Department of Public Health finishes, they will likely recommend changes and could fine the hospital up to $250,000. The records of more than 514,000 patients were on the computer, which listed patients names, ages, dates of birth, medical record numbers and the last four digits of their social security numbers. Eisenhower has set up a hotline that patients can call if they want more information. |
