Suspect steals computers from Newton home while pretending to be maintenance worker

Newton-- Police were called to an Algonquin Road home after a man posing as a maintenance worker allegedly stole three computers from the house while pretending to fix the smoke detectors.

According to police reports, an “unknown black male in his thirties” let himself in through an open front door to the house at around 11:30 a.m.

The suspect allegedly told the four men who live in the house that he was sent to change the batteries in the smoke detectors.

According to police reports, the tenants assumed the manger of the property sent the man.

While one roommate slept on the couch, and the suspect started to change the batteries in the smoke detectors, the other three roommates left.

According to police reports, when they returned home, three computers, two I-Pods and a camera were reported missing from the house.

When the tenants spoke to the landlord, he informed the tenants that he had not sent over a maintenance worker to install new batteries.
