Former MCC employee charged with computer theft
FLINT — A former Mott Community College employee has been charged with four felonies after allegedly stealing campus computers and selling them on eBay, to family and friends and converting them for personal use.
Terrelle R. Lee, 31, of Grand Blanc Township, was arraigned in the 68th District Court on charges of receiving and concealing stolen property over $20,000, using a computer to commit a crime, larceny over $20,000 and larceny in a building, said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.
Lee had worked as a temporary employee in MCC’s Facilities Department since February 2006.
A statement released from Leyton’s offices said Mott Public Safety Department officers learned in February of a report of five computers owned by MCC that had gone missing from a locked closet in the Prahl Learning Center on campus.
Following an investigation, MCC’s officers were led to Lee whom they believe has been stealing computers and other items from MCC for several years to either sell or convert for his own use.
In a press release, Leyton commended the actions of Mott’s Public Safety Department for their efforts in the case.
“I want to commend the Mott Public Safety Department and Chief Theresa Stephens-Lock for their hard work and thoroughness in cracking this case,” Leyton said in the statement.
If convicted of the charges, Lee’s punishment could range from four years in prison and or a $5,000 fine to 10 years and or a $10,000 to $15,000 fine or three times the value of the property stolen.
