Plastics business in Fords suffers $10,000 damage in burglary
A plastics manufacturer that's been closed for business for more than two months because of weather damage suffered another loss when burglars ransacked the firm's offices in Fords and stole nearly $10,000 worth of computers and products.
Police were called to Moldieco Plastic Products on King Georges Road on April 11 after company officials showed up and found their front glass door had been smashed open.
Several windows also had been broken. Offices in the building were ransacked and littered with papers. One office was covered in white powder released from a fire extinguisher.
Workers said a $3,000 UPS shipping computer and two other desktop computers worth $3,000 each were likely stolen. A computer monitor worth $400 was missing, as were several plastic chairs worth $300.
The business has been closed since Feb. 3 while an electrical contractor repairs damage caused by a storm.
Police and business officials believe the crime may have taken place the previous weekend after the office closed at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The police report estimated property damage from the burglary at $2,000.
Moldieco officials could not be reached for comment; their listed phone number was disconnected.
