Eight people arrested following computer theft from school

MARION (KWWL) -

Eight people, including seven teenagers, were arrested Monday following a burglary at a school.

Just after midnight on Monday, Marion officers were called to the Compass Learning Center at 2999 10th Street for a report of a burglary.

Officers found that computer equipment had been taken from the school and witnesses reported seeing two or three people running from the area.

Officer used a description of the vehicle that was used by the suspects to locate a vehicle a couple of hours later.

During their investigation, officers found that the computer equipment had been traded for marijuana at 630 9th Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids.

Marion officers obtained a search warrant for the home. In the process of searching the house, two Marion officers were bit by a pit bull. They suffered minor injuries.

Cedar rapids Animal Control removed the dog and two python snakes from the home.

Police recovered the stolen computer equipment, a handgun, marijuana and a rifle stolen from a Marion home in April.

Police arrested the following:

• Troy Brincks, 17, of Marion, charged with third degree burglary
• Devin Gamm, 17, of Marion, charged with third degree burglary
• William Robison, 17, of Cedar Rapids, charged with second degree theft and delivery of a controlled substance
• Justin Candler, 18, of Marion, charged with conspiracy to commit burglary
• Hanna Madren, 18, of Marion, charged with possession of a controlled substance - marijuana
• Zachary Ludvik, 19, of Marion, charged with possession of a controlled substance and conspiracy to commit burglary
• Shane Newcomb, 20, of Cedar Rapids, charged with providing false information to law enforcement
• Joshua Conklin, 18, of Marion, charged with interference with official acts

Robison and Conklin face charges in connection with the stolen rifle that was found. Both are charged with fifth degree theft in connection with that theft.

Brincks, Gamm, Candler and Robison also face charges in connection with a break-in at the Compass Learning Center on May 10, in which police say computer equipment was stolen. Brincks and Gamm are charged with third degree burglary while Candler and Robison are charged with conspiracy to commit burglary.

The adults were taken to the Linn County Jail while the juveniles were taken to the Linn County Detention Center.
