CLAREMONT - Police are looking for a pack of teenagers suspected of breaking into an elementary school and stealing thousands of dollars worth of computers.
About 11 p.m. Sunday, the alarm at Vista del Valle Elementary School, 550 Vista Drive, alerted Claremont police about the break-in. When officers arrived, they found a classroom with smashed windows.
Police discovered the burglars used bricks to get into the room. They ransacked the classroom and fled.
"We got a call from a witness who saw 10 juveniles wearing all dark clothing prior to the theft on the campus," Claremont police Sgt. Robert Rauchfuss said.
Officers recovered some of the stolen items nearby after the burglars dropped them while fleeing.
An initial estimate of the stolen property is about $10,000.
"That number might go up the more investigating we do," he said.
"It is a possibility," Rauchfuss said about getting the equipment back. "The schools keep track of property. They have identifying markers on their computers, so that always helps aid in recovering the property."
But help from more witnesses could make the possibility of finding the school's computers even greater, Rauchfuss said.
Anyone with information regarding the burglary can call the Police Department at 909-399-5411
