Around $2,600 worth of electronics were stolen from several dorm rooms during a freshman orientation at Louisiana Tech University on Wednesday.
The thefts occurred in at least four separate dorm rooms in Adams Hall, an all-female residence hall, during an orientation for potential honors students, according to Chief Randall Hermes of the Louisiana Tech Police Department.
Three of the rooms belonged to incoming freshmen while the fourth room belonged to a current student who was working as an orientation leader at the time, Hermes said.
The incident occurred between 5:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Wednesday while the prospective students were at orientation activities in the football stadium.
Hermes said a couple of small laptops valued at $250 each were taken in addition to less than a $100 in cash and a Mac laptop valued at $2,200.
Hermes said there were no signs of forced entry into the dorm rooms and that an electronic access key is required to enter the dorm building.
Hermes said the investigation is ongoing.
