Burglars Steal Laptops, Cellphones From East Liberty Computer Store

PITTSBURGH -- Police are investigating after thousands of dollars worth of computers were stolen from an East Liberty store.

Burglars smashed the glass door, breaking into Laptop Etcetera at the intersection of North Highland and Penn avenues.

The owners are part of a group of business owners trying to build East Liberty back up. Alain Tamo said the area, however, is being held back by thieves.

“These were the stones used to smash the glass door open,” Tamo said of nearby rocks. “Everything is ransacked here.”

Tamo said the burglars stole the best laptops and computer equipment, clearing shelves of other items, including cellphones.

“We store our customers’ computer, and some of them, actually, are missing,” said Tamo.

Tamo said he opened the store two years ago.

“East Liberty is changing, moving forward,” said Tamo. “We thought this was the moment to come into the community and bring a service that would be affordable.”

It's the same reason he and his wife opened up another new business. Their coffee shop’s grand opening was Tuesday.

“I was excited to come open the coffee shop and when I walked by, I was like, oh, no,” said owner Kazanda Tamo.

The theft is one of several similar burglaries in the neighborhood in recent months, police said.
