Tow truck driver's tip leads to theft arrest

Thomas Ciarlo
WOLCOTT — A man who ransacked Jim & Son's Auto Repair on Mad River Road and stole two computers, two flat screen monitors, a backup hard drive, zip drive and printer has been arrested thanks to the help of a vigilant tow-truck driver, according to police.

Thomas Ciarlo, 42, of 58 Craftwood Road, Waterbury, has been charged with third-degree larceny and third-degree burglary in connection to the incident. He's being held on $30,400 at Hartford Correction Center and is due back in Waterbury Superior Court July 18.

On April 25, Wolcott police responded to Jim & Son's for a report from a customer, who was dropping off a vehicle, that the store appeared to have been burglarized.

The office was in disarray, the owner was not there and a window in the office, with a broken pane, was open, according to an arrest warrant written by Detective Jeffrey Egan.
