SRVHS burglary may be linked to Walnut Creek thefts |
A burglary at San Ramon Valley High School may be related to two similar burglaries at elementary schools in Walnut Creek, according to police. Over the Labor Day weekend, the three schools were forcibly entered and thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment was stolen.
School officials contacted the Danville Police Department on Tuesday, Sept. 6 to report a missing laptop and seven iPad computers. Police estimate losses at $5,000 for the computers and other miscellaneous items.
An unknown suspect or suspects entered a classroom at an undisclosed part of the high school campus which had no video surveillance, said Sgt. Nate McCormack. Detectives are still investigating how thieves entered the building.
That Tuesday, officials from Indian Valley and Valley Verde elementary schools in Walnut Creek reported break-ins and missing Mac mini computers. Alicia Williams, crime prevention coordinator with the Walnut Creek Police, said six iMacs were taken from Indian Valley Elementary and three were also taken from Valley Verde.
Although the report did not list values for the items, Williams was able to estimate the total loss for both schools.
"I know my (iMac) was $1,400…so you're looking at almost 10 grand," she said.
Officials found door handles that had been pried open, though neither elementary school had video surveillance. Because of the nature of the thefts, Williams said the burglaries in Danville and Walnut Creek are "more than likely related."
Still, all three cases have yet to be passed to detectives for further analysis |
