It is believed criminals broke into the shell of the office block, next to the devastated former Carpetright building in the High Road, and stripped it of copper pipes, electrical cabling and computer equipment over the August bank holiday weekend. They also removed radiators from the walls but left them in the building.
The office block suffered severe damage as a result of the Carpetright fire, which led to the boiler exploding, damage to the staircase and a fire on the ground floor.
It is not known why computer equipment was left on-site, but it is believed a security firm was responsible for protecting the building.
A spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions said it is working with the police to investigate the burglary.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Sgt Noel Stoddart at Haringey CID on 020 8345 0885 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
* Meanwhile, Jobcentre Plus staff have been relocated to Walthamstow and Wood Green branches, and plans are being thrashed out to set up a temporary Jobcentre Plus base in Tottenham in due course.
