One of the ones returned stolen laptops, which is what the majority of the missing ones look like, according to RCMP. There may be some silver coloured Toshibas of an older model as well.

Thanks to a perceptive parent, Merritt RCMP and School District 58 have determined that approximately 15 computers have been stolen from Merritt Secondary School in the past few months.

"The parent had discovered that his son was in possession of a laptop that the family had not purchased so he contacted the local police and turned in the computer as found property," says Merritt RCMP Const. Tracy Dunsmore.

"Although there had been no thefts of computers reported and the serial number was not registered, further investigation determined that the computer had been taken from MSS. It was then discovered that several others had gone missing as well."

Five laptops have been recovered thanks to information from students at the school and the public, but there are still several missing. Police ask parents, students, and members of the public that if they have knowledge of any of the missing laptops to contact the local RCMP.

The laptops are described as Toshiba Tecra R700 laptops, either black or silver in colour, or Dell Latitude D620 and can be traced through an address on the computer.

The file is still under investigation pending further information from the public. No charges have been laid as of yet, but RCMP have a person of interest in the computers that have been returned.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the local RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
