Warrant issued for Genentech man accused of laptop thefts
April 05, 2012, 05:00 AM Daily Journal Staff Report
Dionisio Lozano Dauz Jr.
A former janitor at Genentech accused of stealing more than $30,000 worth of laptop computers and other equipment from the South San Francisco biotech giant is wanted on a $75,000 bench warrant after failing to appear for a preliminary hearing to determine if he will stand trial.
Dionisio Lozano Dauz Jr., 33, of San Francisco, was scheduled to appear Wednesday morning in South San Francisco court but did not, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti.
Dauz could face an added misdemeanor charge of bail jumping on top of the original case which includes a felony embezzlement charge and a misdemeanor count of receiving or disposing of stolen property.
Prosecutors say between April 1, 2011 and Feb. 5, 2012, Dionisio Dauz, 33, pilfered roughly 30 laptop computers, a projector and a desktop computer while working as a janitor at Genentech. The theft was reportedly caught on surveillance tape.
Investigators recovered a few of the laptops and the projector but believe the others were sold or shipped to family members outside the country.
He had been free from custody on a $50,000 bail bond.
